In the shower I realised, that my self-understanding follows Heisenberg’s principle. Either the future stretches before me in a rationally planned set of milestones while I grope unsuccessfully for whom I think I am or alternatively, I have a great sense of self but am adrift in the stream of fate. My choice is shifting back towards seeking the latter and therefore leaving my future in trust. I’m finding that it’s a battle to loosen my white knuckles from a perceived control at the rudder. I suppose there’s truth in the fact that the older one gets, the harder change becomes.

P.S: They say that every 7 years, major life stages fundamentally change a person. They also talk of Saturnalia. I wonder if there’s any truth in either.

Teen patti at a bummy night out

I forgot to say earlier that P. started me thinking about a travelogue extolling the virtues of Indian tourism to the Indian masses.

S. & I had a late evening out at L. & M.’s.

L. is looking beautiful. She traded her personal stories with my second-hand ones on pregnancy. She said that she found a paucity of personal experiences about the pregnant months, while there are tons of anecdotes and horror-stories about the time when people are trying to get pregnant and on the labour itself.

Meanwhile in the living room, the gang was in high humour, being exceedingly well-fed and watered as is the norm with M. Teen pati, with a first-rate poker set and a £20 buy-in, set the scene for the laughter and jostling that petered down early, by usual standards.

A mini-cab ride home at 2.15 framed London’s wet streets slickly reflecting the street lights.

Saving Indian Forests: Conversation and Consequence

I met P. today and we spent 90 minutes chewing on how to conserve forest land in India. We circled leakage issues, the need for conservation to create fast economic opportunities for locals and some great recent mobilisations such as the TeachIndia campaign. We finished with a chat about why he wouldn’t give up his Indian passport – (a) principles; (b) political or economic future possibilities.

I walked away thinking about how youth could be mobilised, made aware and honed, before materialism reduces their youthful idealism to materialistic drive. I would call this movement - ‘Transform’. An organisation to harness Indian youth like the American PeaceCorp. A channelling of the revolutionary youth fervour into knowing their own country, ideally in a different part of the country. A homestay would be easy to organise – but it’s so imperative to capture, nuture and grow the passionate belief in their eyes. It would be necessary to persuade parents that gap months are a good idea. Perhaps it could also take on a junior version, where high schoolers work towards an Indian award, rather than the musty English relic of the Duke’s Award. Perhaps in 50 years, Transform could be a parallel citizen’s administration to address local and national issues.

This post marks the new phase in online presence. A move over from other homes and quite possibly a pit stop, rather than a path to stay on for a longer duration of time. A flirt with wp.com rather than a marriage.

Have to go off and envision saving the Western Ghats. Will be back to spruce and fluff around the dashboard.
